UNIX Engineer

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior UNIX Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in UNIX system administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and automation. This role requires in-depth knowledge of UNIX-based infrastructure, system stability, and enterprise-level IT operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain UNIX servers, ensuring high availability, reliability, and optimal performance.
  • Perform system upgrades, patch management, and configuration changes while minimizing downtime.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and networking issues in a timely manner.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain automation scripts for system management and deployment.
  • Continuously monitor system performance, optimize resource allocation, and enhance efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including security, networking, and application teams, to support business objectives.
  • Implement and enforce security best practices, ensuring compliance with industry standards and organizational policies.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior team members.
  • Support disaster recovery planning and execution, including backup and restore operations.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technologies, trends, and best practices in UNIX administration and IT infrastructure.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in UNIX system administration.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting, automation, and configuration management tools.
  • Strong expertise in system performance tuning, troubleshooting, and incident management.
  • Hands-on experience with system monitoring tools and enterprise backup solutions.
  • Solid understanding of networking principles, protocols, and security best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of configuration management and orchestration tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Experience with database administration on UNIX systems, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, Solaris, or related UNIX/Linux certifications are a plus.
